John Evagora is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts School of Film & Television. His graduating short film, 296 Smith Street, won the Award for Best Direction in a Student Film at the prestigious Australian Directors Guild Awards and was selected to screen in competition at the 2008 Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), where it won the Film Victoria Erwin Rado Award for Best Australian Short Film and the Australian Writers Guild Best Screenplay Award, as well as the Performance Award shared between the two lead actors.  John was also invited to participate in the MIFF Accelerator Program and the film also screened at the Brisbane International Film Festival, Flickerfest and the Sydney Film Festival where it won the Dendy CRC Award. 

Jonn’s earlier short film True Blue Hero, screened at several short film festivals including Revelation Perth International Film Festival, St. Kilda International Film Festival, and was a Melbourne International Comedy Festival finalist. Internationally the film screened at Pisek Student Film Festival (Czech Republic), Interfilm Berlin Film Festival (Germany), and Lille International Short Film Festival (France). Another of his shorts, Remote, won the Triple J Online Best Film, was an A.T.O.M finalist and was selected to screen at St. Kilda International Film Festival.

John is currently in post-production for his Film Victoria funded short film The Rat, produced by Aquarius Films). He is also developing several feature films.
