Aquarius Films is a boutique development and production company dedicated to producing high quality feature films, television series, documentaries, short films and TVC’s. Established by award winning filmmakers Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford in 2007, Aquarius Films creates diverse and innovative work by collaborating with the best writing and directing talent in Australia.
WISH YOU WERE HERE, directed by Blue-Tongue Film's Kieran Darcy-Smith and starring Joel Edgerton, Teresa Palmer, Felicity Price and Antony Starr is due for cinema release in early 2012.
In the last 4 years Angie and Polly have produced five award-winning short films. CROSSBOW (2007), written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker David Michôd (ANIMAL KINGDOM), premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and was also selected to screen in competition at the Sundance Film Festival. CROSSBOW won numerous awards including an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award and the Film Victoria Erwin Rado Award for Best Australian Short at the Melbourne International Film Festival.
I LOVE SARAH JANE (2008), written and directed by LA-based director Spencer Susser and co-written by David Michôd, premiered internationally at the Sundance Film Festival (alongside CROSSBOW), followed by a European premiere at Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival where it won the ‘Prix Canal’. I LOVE SARAH JANE won the Best Short Film Award at Nashville Film Festival and the Most Innovative Short Film at Melbourne International Film Festival.
LITTLE WINGS (2008), written and directed by Polly Staniford, won Best Short Film at the Canberra Film Festival and Best Film at Little Big Shots Children’s Film Festival and screened in competition at Revelation Perth International Film Festival, St Kilda Film Festival, LA Shorts, Uppsala International Short Film Festival and LUCAS International Children’s Film Festival in Germany.
NETHERLAND DWARF (2008), written and directed by David Michôd, screened in competition at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and in the Generation Kplus section of the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. It won the Best Short Drama Award at the prestigious Aspen International Shortsfest and Best Australian Short Film at Flickerfest.
THE FATHER (2011), written and directed by David Easteal has already screened at over 15 international film festivals. It played in competition at Melbourne International Film Festival (participating in the prestigious Accelerator program) and at Hamburg, Nashville, Rhode Island and Singapore among others. It has just been invited to the 2011 BFI London Film Festival.
Post-production has just finished on Film Victoria funded short JOEY written and directed by John Evagora. All of Aquarius Films’ shorts have sold internationally and continue to be invited to festivals and short film programs around the world.
Angie and Polly have produced and production managed over 30 hours of television for a variety of networks including SBS, ABC, Discovery Channel and the Nine Network.
Polly and Angie are currently working on a large slate of longer form projects including MEMORIAL DAY, the second feature film from writer/ director Kieran Darcy-Smith, John Pace’s feature film debut YESTER DAMON (developed with assistance from Film Victoria), the film adaptation of the novel THE SECOND COMING by David Barker, the film adaptation of the Melanie Joosten novel BERLIN SYNDROME, TV comedy/drama SLEEPLESS written by Alice Bell and Alethea Jones, romantic comedy THE POST OFFICE written by Emma Vuletic and Justine Flynn, comedy series FUCK OFF I'M WITH THE BAND by Carmel Debreuil, and international factual series FIND THE WIND.
